About Us

Queerwell is a South African-based Non-Profit Organization (NPO) with a clear mission: to provide accessible and free mental health services to the Queer community. Registered under Section 14 of the Companies Act, 2008 (Registration No. 2019/561395/08), our organization is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals by addressing the unique mental health challenges they face.

LGBTIQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Questioning, and Queer) people can face higher risks of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, alcohol abuse, and suicidal feelings. These struggles are often linked to discrimination, bullying, homophobia, transphobia, or biphobia. Disturbingly, suicide rates among young people aged 10 to 24 rank as the second leading cause of death, with LGBTIQ+ individuals contemplating suicide at a rate three times higher than their heterosexual counterparts. Access to mental health services is a significant challenge in South Africa, exacerbated by financial constraints, discrimination, denial of civil and human rights, harassment, and family rejection for individuals with LGBTIQ+ identities.

Our Mission

At Queerwell, we are unwavering in our dedication to empowering and nurturing the mental well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Our mission is clear: to create a safe and inclusive virtual space where individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions can seek understanding, healing, and strength.

We firmly believe that every member of the LGBTQ+ community deserves equitable access to mental health resources that respect their unique experiences and challenges. Our passionate team of mental health professionals, volunteers, and allies is committed to breaking down barriers to care, offering a platform where individuals can freely express themselves without fear of discrimination or judgment.

Our approach is rooted in evidence-based therapeutic interventions and tailored support to foster resilience, promote self-acceptance, and cultivate a sense of belonging among our community members. By actively listening to their stories, struggles, and triumphs, we aim to create a sense of connectedness that transcends geographical boundaries, providing a virtual lifeline for those who might feel isolated or unsupported in their local environments.

At Queerwell, our vision is to build a world that celebrates diversity and embraces the strength of the LGBTQ+ community. We are passionate advocates for mental health equity, tirelessly challenging stigma, raising awareness, and advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of queer individuals everywhere.

We firmly believe in the transformative power of empathy, kindness, and allyship. Our aim is to build a vibrant, empathetic community where members uplift and support each other, fostering a sense of unity that extends beyond our online platform. By creating a space where individuals can embrace their authentic selves and navigate life’s challenges with dignity and resilience, we contribute to a world where everyone can live openly, authentically, and happily.

Together, we strive to create a Queerwell that nurtures the mental health of the LGBTQ+ community one step at a time, empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives and pursue their dreams with unwavering confidence.

Join us on this transformative journey, as we work hand in hand to build a brighter, more inclusive future for the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. Together, we can make a difference.
